Hilton online services, Delta Pacific cutbacks, unaccompanied minor options

Hilton to offer online check-in, room selection, and smartphone room keys

Hilton announced that it will have online check-in, room selection, and digital check-out. In the future, it plans to allow you to unlock your room via your smartphone.

The new system allows guests who are Hilton HHonors members to check in for a hotel stay at 6 a.m. the day before arrival. The system will allow them to choose a room using floor plans and a list of available rooms. It will also provide photos of the rooms to make it easier to choose.

Delta announces cutbacks in the Pacific

In a memo to its employees, Delta announced cutbacks in its Pacific division.

The airline has been reducing the size of its Tokyo hub at Narita International Airport for some time and is eliminating several routes while downgauging the aircraft used on other routes. It will also continue to expand its Seattle hub and increase non-stop routes from there.

Unhappy campers find fewer flights for kids traveling solo

Fewer airlines are allowing unaccompanied minors to travel if their flight involves a connection.

Only three airlines — Alaska Air, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines — offer unaccompanied-minor service on connecting flights, and only for children age 8 or older. The rest offer this service only on nonstop or, sometimes, on direct flights.
