UAL keeps Denver hub, choose your meal before you fly, Vegas-Monterrey starts in December

United commits to keeping hub in Denver

United Airlines has extended its lease with Denver International Airport through 2035.

The new extension is expected to save United around $35 million annually, as well as save money for other airlines at Denver International Airport through debt restructuring, airport officials said.

Cathay Pacific plans ‘choose before you fly’ meal selection

Cathay Pacific travelers may soon be able to choose their meal before they fly. Fliers in Economy will also have a chance to upgrade their meals for a fee.

Those are two features of a new ‘Catering Planner’ system being developed for Cathay Pacific and its regional arm, Dragonair, for debut in 2015.

CX describes Catering Planner as a “Cloud-based, next-generation integrated catering solution” to replace the current catering system, which is managed using Microsoft Word and Excel.

Las Vegas-to-Monterrey flights launching in December

A discount air carrier will soon offer flights from Las Vegas McCarran airport to Monterrey, Mexico.

Mexican company VivaAerobus is launching four nonstop flights a week between the two cities starting December 5. Fares start at $99 each way.

The new flights support the Las Vegas airport’s efforts to attract more international travelers, who tend to stay longer and spend more while they’re in town.
