National Parks and National Wildlife Refuges open to the public again

The recent shutdown of the US government closed the entire US National Park System. While rarely mentioned during the shutdown, it also closed the US National Wildlife Refuge System. Ned Levi discusses visiting both, with special emphasis on the less known National Wildlife Refuge System and what the refuge system has to offer travelers.

Just a mile from the Philadelphia International Airport, travelers can find more than 300 bird species, many other animals, butterflies and wildflowers in the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum.

Airports testing radar that can spot birds

Several of the nation's busiest airports will soon begin testing radar systems that can track flocks of birds and assist pilots in avoiding the type of collision that brought down US Airways Flight 1549.
