LOT gives start dates for 787 service to Chicago, New York, Toronto and Beijing

LOT has announced its routes and start dates for 787 service.

Marcin Pirog, CEO of LOT Polish Airlines, has announced that the carrier’s inaugural Boeing 787 service from Warsaw to Chicago will be on January 16.

This will be followed closely by LOT beginning Dreamliner service to Toronto Pearson International Airport on February 1 and to New York JFK on February 3. LOT Polish Airlines will launch Boeing 787 service to Beijing a month later, on March 3.

Manchester airport axes controversial ‘naked’ scanners after EU fails to approve them

Manchester airport in the United Kingdom has decided to not use the backscatter scanners after the European Union failed to approve their use.

The machines will be replaced by five next generation ‘privacy-friendly’ scanners because the European Commission has not approved them for permanent use.

Critics said the machines, which display graphic x-ray-style images, invaded passenger privacy.

US Airways hit with $21,000 in fines after baggage worker crushed by conveyor belt


An Arizona agency has fined US Airways $21,000, blaming it for the death of a baggage handler in February who became lodged between two conveyor belts for 15 minutes.

Robert Demarco, 60, was working to free a stuck suitcase from a conveyor in Terminal 4 at Phoenix Sky Harbor airport on Feb. 17 when he was sucked into an area between the upper and lower belts and killed.

    Your LOT Dreamliner article makes me wonder:
    (1) Is there a US airline that still flies to Warsaw? I guess not.
    (2) Is Poland a rich country or LOT a rich airline? How can they afford multiple 787 routes when we Americans still have to fly old 767s to Europe?

    The US Export-Import Bank (ExIm) guaranteed the loans of LOT to buy these Dreamliners. So in case LOT can’t pay, we the US taxpayers are on the hook.

    It is sad. Many Americans can only watch while politicians argue Essential Air Services. Why can’t we spend the money here at home. Who really cares to fly to Warsaw on a Dreamliner?
