Extra travel fees here to stay, like it or not

As a follow up on our story regarding the Spirit Airline baggage fee hike, we find that some travelers won’t be able to avoid the extra travel fees.

Also called “user fees,” those who value the option they provide are relatively happy to pay. After all, these are not mandatory fees but options. Still, just the dollar amount makes experts wonder, “What’s next?”

AeroMexico finalizes 737 MAX order

Grupo AeroMexico has finalized the purchase of up to 90 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

The order follows AM’s letter of intent for up to 100 aircraft previously announced July 25 (ATW Daily News, July 25). AM said 60 of the 90 aircraft are firm deliveries with 30 options.

Air service to Alaskan island ends despite new $75.5 million airport

The Aleutian island village of Akutan has a new $75.5 million airport. The problem is, service is ending to this airport.

The Suna X, an 89-foot-long hovercraft owned by the Aleutians East Borough, connects the town and its airport. The borough acquired the vessel for service between King Cove and Cold Bay in 2007, but it proved trouble-prone.

Then-borough administrator Bob Jeuttner was quoted as saying, “We can’t afford the hovercraft.”
