United ups mileage needed for many frequent-flier tickets

Last week United upped its mileage requirements for its most popular frequent flier award tickets.

Examples of United’s Mileage Plus awards that now require more miles for flights operated by United:

•The lowest-level award tickets to Europe are unchanged for economy, but now require 15,000 additional miles for business class (115,000 round trip) and 25,000 more for first (160,000 round trip). Those are increases of 15 percent and 19 percent, respectively, according to the MileCards.com calculation.

Chile’s Torres del Paine National Park selected as 8th Wonder of the World by VirtualTourist voters

After more than five million votes from around the world, VirtualTourist.com announced that Chile’s Torres del Paine National Park was selected as the eighth wonder of the world.

Formed approximately, 145 to 66 million years ago, Torres del Paine National Park in Chilean Patagonia occupies 935 square miles (2,442 square kilometers) and is well known for its beautiful mountain peaks with its highest point reaching 9,462 feet (2,884 meters).

Air France A380s in doubt put Airbus goals further out of reach

Air France-KLM said that it is exploring the option to cancel its A380 orders for another model.

Air France-KLM chief executive officer Alexandre de Juniac said the French carrier may swap some A380s already deferred to 2016 for other models. The airline had ordered 12 double-deckers and taken delivery of nine by the end of September. Another model is due for handover in 2014.
